Texas 2026 live midterm results: Democrats Talarico and Hinojosa projected to break GOP stronghold

The state's Trump-pushed redistricting effort shows mixed results so far.

Democrats James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa are projected to win the Senate and governor's races, ABC News projects, breaking a more than three-decade Republican stronghold.

Talarico is projected to defeat Texas Secretary of State Greg Paxton, while Hinojosa, who would be the state's first Hispanic governor, is projected to unseat three-term incumbent Greg Abbott.

Hinojosa will make history as Texas' first Hispanic governor and the first Democratic governor elected since 1990. Abbott had won his previous three elections by double digits.

Of the five seats that were redrawn by the GOP-controlled state legislature to make them more Republican-friendly, Democrats are projected to hold four of them as of Wednesday afternoon while there were no projection yet in the other.
