Disney's D23: Everything announced, from rides to movies and more
Disney superfans are gathering in Anaheim, California, this weekend for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where there will be no shortage of announcements made.
From sneak peeks of new Disney movies and shows to first looks at new experiences and products, D23 is the place where news is made for fans of Disney's theme parks, characters and more.

Experiences and games
Disney World
The upcoming Villains Land expansion in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom will officially be named Villains Land.
One attraction is a new coaster featuring Maleficent from "Sleeping Beauty," another is a dark ride themed around the Evil Queen's Magic Mirror from "Snow White" that will feature multiple villains.
The land will include Cruella de Vil from "101 Dalmatians," Dr. Facilier from "The Princess and the Frog" and other beloved baddies. The company hasn't said when this land will open.
Ridge Run Rally is the name of the rally attraction at Piston Peak National Park, the upcoming "Cars"-themed expansion coming to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. It's unclear when the expansion will open, but construction is underway.
Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along, Piston Peak's second attraction, was showcased in concept art.
Journey Into Imagination With Figment at Walt Disney World's Epcot will restore classic character Dreamfinder as part of a refresh.
Spaceship Earth at Walt Disney World's Epcot is being restoring for the first time in 20 years -- the new version will be about human connection. It will bring new magic to every scene, but remain "classically Epcot."
Monstropolis at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios will open in 2027, with its door vault coaster to arrive later. The new area will feature Disney Legend Randy Newman's first song composed for a Disney park, "Welcome to Monstropolis."
Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto is the name of the new Encanto ride at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom. It will feature the movie's original actors voicing the Madrigal family.
The updated Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom will debut in late spring 2027, and feature the voices of Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston.
The iconic Yeti in Expedition Everest at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom will be repaired and move again, for the first time since the ride opened in 2006.
Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent is the name of the new Indy attraction currently being built at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom. It will feature Harrison Ford as the model for the Indy animatronic figure for the first time ever.
Disneyland
Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab, two Marvel-inspired rides coming in the expansion of the Avengers Campus section at Disneyland's California Adventure park, will open in 2028.
Disneyland's Tomorrowland is getting a refresh, with new attractions and new open spaces.
Remember Dreams Come True night spectacular will return to Disneyland in February 2027.
Disneyland Paris
Scar will make his debut as a new audio-animatronics figure in "The Lion King" attraction at Disney Adventure World at Disneyland Paris. The attraction will showcase Scar's final confrontation with Simba.
Hyperspace Mountain in Disneyland Paris will close next year and be restored to its original form Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune, with its original music.
Tokyo Disney
Space Mountain: Earthrise will open in as part of a reimagined Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland, in partnership with Mark Rober. It's designed to "celebrate the beauty of our planet while inspiring guests to look toward the future," the company said.
Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, the first "Wreck-It Ralph" ride, will open at Tokyo Disneyland next spring.
Shanghai Disneyland
The final piece of track for the roller coaster the upcoming Spider-Man land has been installed.
Hong Kong Disneyland
Avengers Research Testing Labs will open at the upcoming Avengers Pavilion, and will feature Spider-Man as one of its stars.
Games
"Kingdom Hearts 4" got a new trailer showing its "Coco"-inspired world.
"Fortnite" and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run announced a first-of-its-kind connected adventure, Smugglers Gambit, launching on Sunday, Aug. 16.
Guests can use the Disneyland or My Disney Experience (for Disney World) app to accept the mission while in line for the Galaxy's Edge ride, then unlock the rewards by visiting the new "Star Wars"-themed island in "Fortnite"
Upcoming cruise ship Disney Believe will feature Tinker Bell on its bow, with Woody and Buzz Lightyear on its stern. Moana will be its Grand Hall icon. It's scheduled to sail in 2027.
Disney Cruise Line will debut a new class of ship in 2029.
Movies
"Frozen 3" will feature a wedding, a new villain, a new love interest and of course new music when it hits theaters on Nov. 24, 2027.
"Hexed" will arrive in theaters on Nov. 25, featuring Walton Goggins, Hailee Steinfeld and Jodie Foster starring in her first-ever Disney animated movie. Theatrical screenings will include the all-new animated short "Lilo & Scratch."
"The Bluey Movie" will arrive in theaters on Aug. 6, 2027, and D23 attendees got a first look at the teaser trailer and poster for the CG-animated film.
"The New Simpsons Movie" will be released in September 2027, and fans got a first look at the film.
"Avengers: Doomsday" stars assembled onstage to give fans a special look at the new movie, hitting theaters on Dec. 18.
The cast of "X-Men" made their debut, including Adam Driver, Kit Connor, Christopher Abbott, Samara Weaving, Inde Navarrette and Maya Boyd. The movie comes out May 5, 2028.
"Zootopia 3" is in the works, two of the movie's stars, Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan, announced alongside Disney Animation head Jared Bush.
"Clay," a new animated movie starring Kieran Culkin as rebellious misfit Flip, is coming to theaters in November 2028. It's set in a magical forest full of fantastical creatures, the company said.
"Star Wars: Starfighter" will arrive on May 28, 2027, according to director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Gosling. They revealed that Gosling's character is called Kade Auberon, and screened a teaser exclusively for the room.
"Incredibles 3" is coming to theaters in summer 2028, and the Parr children will take center stage in the movie, according to Pete Docter, chief creative officer at Pixar Animation Studios.
"Coco 2" will premiere in movie theaters in November 2029, according to actor Benjamin Bratt, who also shared that he'll reprise his role as villainous musician Ernesto de la Cruz in the Pixar sequel.
"Princess Diaries 3" is currently underway, the movie's star, Anne Hathaway, announced onstage, adding that the team is hard at work on the highly-anticipated movie.
"Lilo & Stitch 2" will premiere in theaters on May 28, 2028, and, according to a newly-released image, will feature the character, Angel.
"Ice Age: Boiling Point" starring Queen Latifah and Dennis Leary, is debuting in theaters on Feb. 5, 2027.
The live-action "Tangled" movie is coming to theaters on March 31, 2028, with attendees getting their first looks at Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel.
"Ghost Street" will be released in spring 2028, becoming Pixar's first ghost movie.
TV, streaming and theater
"VisionQuest," starring Paul Bettany, will debut on Oct. 14 on Disney+. Check out the trailer for the Marvel show below.
"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" season 2 will premiere on Disney+ in January 2027, and a teaser gave D23 attendees their first glimpse of Venom.
Marvel's "Spidey and his Amazing Friends" has been renewed for a historic seventh season on Disney Jr. and Disney+.
"Ahsoka" season 2 premieres on Jan. 20, 2027 on Disney+, and the first trailer of the new season of the Star Wars show was released.
"Scrubs" season 2 will feature Scott Foley reprising his role as Sean Kelly. The two-episode premiere of the revival's second season airs Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
Sheryl Crow has written and performed new original music -- including the theme song "Built to Last" -- for the upcoming Disney Jr. series "Cars: Lightning Racers." The show will debut in 2027.
"Oswald," a three-part mini-series featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, is coming to Disney+ on Feb. 17 2027, show creator Jon Favreau announced.
Season 3 of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" will arrive on Disney+ on Nov. 20, and the show's stars -- including surprise guests Ming-Na Wen and Andra Day -- debuted the official teaser trailer for the new season.
"The Greatest Showman" will arrive at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London in spring 2027.
"Kingdom Hearts," an original anime series inspired by the video game franchise, is coming soon to The Disney Channel and Disney+.
"The Imagineering Story" season 2 is currently filming and will debut on Disney+ in early 2028, according creator, executive producer and director Leslie Iwerks. The series takes an in-depth look at the history of Disney Parks and attractions, and the people who create them.
