Woman found dismembered at apartment complex in Georgia: Police
A teen who lives at the complex is a person of interest for murder, police said.
The remains of a dismembered woman were found at an apartment complex in Georgia, police said, calling it a "shocking" and "particularly gruesome crime."
Kingston Bradley, an 18-year-old man who lives at the apartment complex, is in custody and has been charged with malice murder and concealing the death of another, police said Friday.
Bradley is being held on no bond, according to Cobb County jail records.
Police said they believe the victim is Shanteria Mosley, known as "KT" by her friends and family.
The remains were discovered Wednesday night at the Park Valley Apartments in Smyrna, police said.
Later, on Friday, detectives carried out a search warrant on a vehicle and discovered garbage bags in the vehicle's trunk, police said in a news release Friday providing an update on the case.
"One garbage was pulled tightly showing the outline of a body part," police said in the release. The Cobb County Medical Examiner was called to the scene who confirmed the bag contained body parts, police said.
Lt. Meredith Holt, the public information officer for the Smyrna Police Department, said earlier the murder investigation is "active and ongoing."
"We are continuing to do interviews to see if there are any other possible suspects that could be out there," she told reporters during a press briefing on Friday.
Police are looking into whether there are any connections between the victim and Bradley, Holt said. Bradley has not provided any statements to investigators, she said.
"We have issued multiple search warrants and continuing to do a lot of interviews," she said. "We are looking at multiple different types of evidence, at multiple different types of possible scenes, and through that we are following any lead that we have."
Holt told reporters during the earlier briefing that investigators are still searching for other parts of the victim's body.
"This is a shocking crime. I don't know how else to describe it," Holt said. "I've been in law enforcement for 25 years, and I have been a part of multiple homicide cases, and I worked crimes against children for 16 years, and this is a particularly gruesome crime."
There are people who believe they are related to the victim, Holt said at the earlier press briefing. DNA testing was underway "to get an absolute confirmation," she said.
The family members reported a missing person whose phone and vehicle were at the Park Valley Apartments, Holt said. An officer responded to the complex Wednesday evening, knocking on several doors and conducting interviews, before leaving after about 30 minutes, she said. The officer is believed to have told the family to file a missing person report with police in Atlanta, because that was the last location she was seen, Holt said.
About 30 minutes after the officer left, officers responded to the apartment complex again for the homicide investigation, police said.
