Potential tropical storm may make landfall in Texas on Tuesday: Latest forecast

A developing system along the Gulf Coast may strengthen to Tropical Storm Edouard and make landfall in Texas near the Louisiana border on Tuesday.

The system may bring flooding to parts of Texas, with the heaviest rain falling between Houston and Beaumont.

A flood watch is in effect through Wednesday morning for the Texas cities of Houston, Galveston and Beaumont, where rainfall rates could reach 3-to-4 inches per hour.

Three-to-five inches of rain is likely, with some areas forecast to get 6-to-9 inches of rainfall.

One-to-three feet of storm surge is possible from High Island, Texas, to the Vermilion/Iberia Parish Line in Louisiana. Edouard could also bring strong wind gusts around 40 or 50 mph. 

A tropical storm warning has been issued from Port Bolivar, Texas, to the Vermilion/Cameron Parish line in Louisiana.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said on social media on Sunday that officials are tracking this system and "coordinating with electric power providers."

"If the system continues to develop, we will make announcements about emergency preparation, as needed," Abbott said.
