Former NFL star Mark Sanchez set to plead guilty over Indianapolis altercation
A motion seeks a guilty plea and sentencing hearing in November.
Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is set to plead guilty in connection with an altercation with a truck driver in Indianapolis last year that led to him being stabbed, online court records show.
A motion for a guilty plea and sentencing hearing in the case was filed on Thursday, according to online court records.
The motion requests that the hearing be set in November, according to a spokesperson for the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
It is unclear what the ex-Fox Sports broadcaster plans to plead guilty to.
He was charged with felony battery in connection with the October 2025 incident, which left him and the truck driver -- Perry Tole -- hospitalized. He was also charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication -- all misdemeanors.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office spokesperson did not release any additional information.
"Our priority remains securing justice for Mr. Tole," the spokesperson said.
A trial in the case had most recently been scheduled to start on Sept. 8. Tole has also filed a civil suit against Sanchez and Fox Corporation over the incident.
Mark Sanchez's brother and legal adviser, Nick Sanchez Jr., said in a statement Thursday that they are "finalizing an agreement with the prosecutor's office that provides a path toward resolving the state's case."
He said they are also "encouraged by the constructive conversations taking place regarding the related civil matter."
"There is real momentum toward bringing this entire chapter to a close," he said.
An attorney for Tole said in a statement Thursday that they are "pleased with the constructive and professional conversations we've had with Mr. Sanchez's team."
"Our discussions have been productive and we’re on a positive path toward an agreement that will allow the parties to move forward," the attorney, Matt Golitko, said. "Mr. Tole appreciates the progress we have achieved and looks forward to an amicable resolution.”
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Oct. 4, 2025, when Sanchez got into a dispute with Tole, who was working at a hotel loading dock, according to police and prosecutors.
Sanchez allegedly climbed into the truck and stopped Tole from calling for help before a fight between the two broke out, according to court records.
Tole's attorney previously told ABC News that the truck driver tried to defend himself by stabbing Sanchez.
Sanchez had several stab wounds to his torso, while Tole suffered a "severe laceration to the side of his face," according to court documents.
At the time, Sanchez was a Fox Sports color commentator and was in the city to broadcast a game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. In the weeks following the incident, a Fox Sports spokesperson confirmed that Sanchez was no longer with the network.
He was a first-round draft pick of the New York Jets in 2009.
