Rutherford throws for 3 TDs to send Stephen F. Austin past Prairie View A&M 31-10

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Gavin Rutherford threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns and Stephen F. Austin beat Prairie View A&M 31-10 on Saturday night.

In the first quarter, Rutherford threw 15-yard touchdowns to Gerard Edimo and Cameron Kelley almost 10 minutes apart to put the Lumberjacks (4-0) ahead 14-0.

Carlos Alvarado kicked a 46-yard field goal with 5:11 left before halftime, and with 1:48 before the break, Rutherford threw a 10-yard touchdown Bugs Mortimer for a 24-0 advantage.

The Panthers (1-3) got on the scoreboard with 8:52 left in the third when Ethan Eddins connected from 37 yards out.

Speedy Jones closed the scoring for Stephen F. Austin with a 21-yard touchdown run 12 seconds into the fourth.

Prairie View's Kaeden Smith ran it in from the 2 to end a 10-play, 72-yard drive with 4:02 remaining for the game's final score.

Tevin Carter threw for 117 yards for Prairie View.
