Jaylin Carter scores 4 TDs to lead Memphis past Arkansas State 42-24

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Jaylin Carter scored three of his four rushing touchdowns after halftime and finished with 201 total yards as Memphis pulled away from Arkansas State for a 42-24 win on Saturday.
Carter averaged 9.6 yards on 19 carries for 183 yards and hauled in one catch for 18 yards. Manny Covey added 103 yards as the Tigers (2-0) rushed for 335.
Memphis trailed 17-14 late in the second quarter after Trey Owens connected with Kenyon Clay for a 75-yard touchdown. Marcus Stokes answered with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jermane Hayes with 40 seconds left to send the Tigers into halftime ahead 21-17.
Carter extended the lead with a 13-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. Arkansas State (0-1) pulled within 28-24 before Carter broke a 74-yard touchdown run just 47 seconds later.
His 24-yard score in the fourth quarter capped the scoring.
Stokes completed 12 of 15 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns and was intercepted twice.
Owens threw for 325 yards and a touchdown for Arkansas State, but Memphis intercepted him four times.
Arkansas State: Host West Georgia on Saturday.
Memphis: At Boise State next Saturday.
